Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use URLinspector if I can inspect in Search Console?

Have you tried the URL Inspection in Google Search Console recently?

It can take 10 to 20 seconds to return the result for 1 single URL!

Who has time for that?

Have you tried doing this for multiple URLs? Hundreds of URLs maybe?

It’s an unreasonable headache to check for indexing using the Google Search Console for one website.

Now imagine you have a couple of 100 websites to manage.

This is where URLinspector comes in.

URLinspector performs the inspections for you automatically and has them ready for you when you need them.

URLinspector also keeps historical records of your inspection results, and combines them with rankings, impressions, and click-throughs.

You get insights that you cannot get elsewhere.

How much time will setup of URLinspector take?

We have a minimal setup process that requires only two steps

  1. Connection with your Google Search Console account
  2. Click of the “Setup all domains automatically for me”

Setup all domains automatically in URLinspector

After this initial authorization step URLinspectors starts it’s work by

  1. Downloading most recent traffic statistics from Google Search Console to prioritize the most important URLs first
  2. Using the URL Inspection API to gather the current state of the Google index for your URLs, ordered by importance.

Of course you can setup your domains manually, but we recommend you to use the “Setup all domains for me” button to get started as quick as possible.

What is a Monitoring Profile in URLinspector?

A Monitoring Profile is setup for one or more Google Search Console Property to be used.

A Monitoring Profile defines how you want to get data reported.

Here are some examples for you.

Simple case - max. 2000 URLs per day

Typically this would be setup for the whole RootDomain - shown as *.yourdomain.com in URLinspector.

You have one Property in Google Search Console and we can do up to 2,000 URLs in monitoring.

The URLinspector case - a lot more URLs per day

You would still setup for the whole RootDomain - shown as *.yourdomain.com in URLinspector.

But if you have ten different Properties in Google Search Console ("GSC Properties") for different folders or sub domains, we can use up to 2,000 URLs per GSC Property. Those ten GSC Properties would therefore all you to inspect up to 10,000 URLs in one Monitoring Profile, per day.

Different subdomains

If you manage multiple sub domains you may want to analyze them separately.

Then each sub domain can be setup separately as a Monitoring Profile for example

  • blog.yourdomain.com
  • www.yourdomain.com
  • shop.yourdomain.com

The major benefit of this setup over the simple case with 1 Monitoring Profile is that you can get up to 2,000 URLs checked each. So in this case each has a maximum of 2,000 URLs checked per day = 6,000

Larger websites with many folders

If you manage a websites with a lot of pages, i.e. 100.000s of URLs, you can separate them in independant Monitoring Profiles, for example

To name a typcial pattern where each folder hosts a different language.

Again each of the Monitoring Profiles can get up to 2,000 URLs checked each. So in this case each has a maximum of 2,000 URLs checked per day = 8,000

What is an URL Inspection?

An URL Inspection is 1 Call to the Google URL Inspection API on your behalf.

These are limited to 2,000 calls per day per Google Search Console Property, and only 600 per 10 minutes. We carefully control this limits for you.

The result gives us a clear, up-to-date information about what Google thinks about an URL in terms of Indexing, Mobile-readyness, Rich times, Rel-Canonicals and much more.

What is the URL Inspection API?

The URL Inspection API is provided by Google to users of the Google Search Console API.

How reliable is the data in URLinspector?

The data is sourced directly from your Google Search Console account.

Some SEOs call it the the “only source of truth” for SEO data. The fact, that this is data coming from Google directly gives it a main advantage over any third party data.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. No data source on the web is perfect.

Some things to know

  • Link Data provided by Google Search Console is usually only 5-10% of visible links to LinkResearchTools.
  • Google Search Analytics data is always around 48 hours delayed.
  • Up to 50% of missing keyword clicks were found in Google Search Analytics data, as reported by Ahrefs.
  • Google Search Console data “doesn’t add up” always,is not always 100% accurate.
  • URL Inspection API data is slow and very limited to 2000 URLs per day per GSC Property. This is why URLinspector exists, we help you get the most data - despite this limitation.

How can URLinspector go beyond the 2000 URL per day limit?

Using a lot of additional Properties in Google Search Console is a great way to get more data.

While you could setup a Monitoring Profile for each Property, this is not required.

URLinspector can use any number of Properties in Google Search Console, combines and schedules them for maximum output.

URLinspector handles errors, over quota signals, outages and all sorts of other nasty problems you have when you try to query URL inspection data yourself or via desktop tool.

This combination and smart scheduling of GSC Properties sets URLinspector apart from other solutions.
